The Blurry Eye of the Beholder

They say, “art is in the eye of the beholder”

We’ve been working our little behinds off trying to get a long overdue project done to unveil at the Artistry in Iron event at Las Vegas Bikefest.  Here’s a sneak peek, an actual photograph of the bike, yes… we know we suck for photoshop-ing it.  Remember, “patience is a virtue”, it’s only a few weeks away and then we won’t have any more secrets, well, at least not that one.

THE Original Crown Gas Cap

Often imitated, never duplicated!

An LACC Original, we made our first batch of THE Original Crown Gas Caps over 7 years ago, we’re just finishing a new batch and offering a New Gloss Black Anodized color option.  We’ve also updated the vented style with a sintered bronze breather fitting to minimize the chance of fuel spillage.

We’re putting them on special thru the month of September, here’s your chance to save some Duckets on a Crown.

Tanks Alot

Our “Pinche Petrol” gas tanks are 100% made in the USA.  We try very hard to offer unique, quality parts at a fair price.  Sometimes we wish we could sell stuff cheaper, but that would mean cranking out huge volumes from China, India or some other 3rd World Country, the quality would suffer, the parts wouldn’t be so unique anymore and the work would leave the USA like too much has already.

These babies are almost as time consuming and costly to make as a complete on-off gas tank.  We worked hard to create a cool tank from as few parts as possible, helping eliminate the chance of failure.  There are literally only 9 pieces, including all bungs, which number 6 (4 mounting bungs, 1 gas cap filler bung and 1 petcock bung).  They’re made from 14 gauge steel and the left and right stampings require a 2 step stamping process, which meant almost twice the dollar investment in tooling and the 1 piece “Frisco” style bottom has the sunken mounts formed into it, eliminating the need for another welded seam.  All the parts are initially trimmed with a robotic laser but require additional shaping and trimming to ensure a perfect fit as we assemble them in our shop.  Everything is then TIG welded, hand finished and pressure tested to 10-15 psi.

The standard configuration has the gas cap filler bung forward and offset slightly to the right, with the petcock bung to the rear lower left side.  This setup makes for easy filling and optimal fuel feed on a bike with a standard left side kickstand, but custom configurations are also available.  Each tank includes one of our gas caps in your choice of style and finish and our Universal Mounting Kit.  Approximate dimensions are, 20” overall length, 19” tunnel length, 9” tall, 9” wide, with about a 3 gallon capacity.

Check out some photos of the process below or go HERE to order.

Fabrication Gives Me Gas

This little baby is one of my favorite and most used tools.

TIG welding (tungsten inert gas) or as it’s more formally know, GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding) is a mainstay in the world of fabrication.  It’s value to the fabricator is it’s ability to weld a wide variety of materials in varying thicknesses, from thick to thin.  The weld is shielded from contaminants in the atmosphere with gas (usually Argon) and the process allows the welder much more control over heat, etc…  Of course this means it takes longer to master the process and it’s slower than other methods but once you get the hang of it, there isn’t any turning back.

There are tons of different machines available, with varied capabilities, depending on your needs, we’ve always been fans of Miller equipment and that’s all we’ve used for years.  You can check out the latest in high tech welding gear from them at www.millerwelds.com
